1. Galactic Suite Four Spaniards will be the first to stay for 4 days at 450 kilometers from the Earth and the space tourism company introduced the first “spa” to be installed in space. The Space Tourism Company Galactic Suite already has 38 reservations made by tourists who in 2012 will travel to the hotel to spend four days at 450 kilometers from the Earth. The trip, which will cost 3 million euros, also includes 18 weeks of preparation for the tourists to acquire experience in space.
2. Barcelona Digital Barcelona City Council and the technology centre Barcelona Digital have signed a collaborative agreement to boost growth in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector in Catalonia and, specifically, in district 22@. The ICT sector is one of the five business groups in the technological district 22@, with 300 businesses (27% of the total of 1,100 companies based at 22@Barcelona) and 14,500 workers (45% of the district total).
3. Barcelona as the innovation capital of the world HiT Barcelona 2009 will turn the city into the innovation capital of the world. The main feature of this summit will be its structure, which combines three different approaches in one event. Innovation gurus, entrepreneurs and international investors will be gathering in Barcelona from 17 to 19 June to take part in the first event of its kind in Barcelona. It will be focused on the three sectors with the greatest growth potential: Telecommunications, Cleantech (alternative, clean and renewable energies) and Healthcare (health and biotechnology sciences).
4. Carnival in Barcelona Every year during Carnival the city markets are lively places, with lots of activities organized from Fat Thursday, on 19 February, to burying the sardine on Ash Wednesday, 25 February. This year once again they will be holding the "Pebrot d'Or" (Golden Pepper), which has become quite a market tradition, where the stalls with the funniest, most imaginative decorations and the stall holders with the best carnival outfits get a prize. The markets and stall holders dress up for the occasion, creating a lively, fun atmosphere.
4. Barcelona and the Oscars Penélope Cruz won an Oscar as best supporting actress for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Her performance in the Woody Allen film Vicky Cristina Barcelona, shot in Barcelona, earned her the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 81st Academy Awards Ceremony dominated by Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, which won eight Oscars, including Best Film and Best Director. This is part of the old town of Barcelona and offers many beautiful buildings that date from Medieval times. There are even remains of the squared Roman Wall. 3. U2 in Barcelona! The largest Rock band will begin their tour in Barcelona. The Irish band will present their latest album 'No Line On The Horizon' in two consecutive concerts in the Catalan capital "Barcelona". The first concert being on the 29th June and the second on the 30th. The concerts are planned to be held at Camp Nou stadium, but it is not confirmed yet.
