1. Tourists heading to Oscar locales There is a "film-factor" that attract tourists to those places shown in Oscar-nominated films. Barcelona is on this spot because of the Woody Allenīs film "Vicky Cristina Barcelona". Therefore, it is expected that the city will benefit with an important increase in the number of tourists.
2. Sagrada Familia to be finished by 2010 Chief architect Jordi Bonet said he expected construction work on the interior of the Catholic basilica to be finished by September 2010. Designed by legendary Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi (1852-1926), the Sagrada Familia (Holy Family) draws millions of visitors annually to marvel over its three grand facades, sculptures mingling religious images with natural forms, and spindle-shaped towers.
3. Barcelona shows off an unusual building by Toyo Ito The Toyo Ito building facade mimics sea waves. The roof-top views are certainly spectacular and, moreover, Toyo Ito's first building to grace Barcelona is opposite La Pedrera, at the intersection of Passeig de Grācia and Carrer de Provenįa. 4. Barcelona to host second World Architecture Festival 2009 Celebration of building design will focus on 'new global economy', with extended categories of awards. The World Architecture Festival, the globe's biggest architectural summit, will take place in Barcelona for the second year running. Programme director Paul Finch confirmed that the festival would take place in the Spanish city on 4-6 November 2009, following its successful inaugural year last year. The festival's thematic exhibition, Less Does More, will examine the challenges facing architects in the new world economy. It will focus on how creative design and imaginative thinking can reduce the amount of time, energy, material and finance needed to create buildings and cities. HOT DEALS!
