1. Barcelona is the third happiest city in the world Rio de Janeiro is first on the list. Barcelona is the third happiest city in the world, according to the American magazine Forbes, overtaken only Rio de Janeiro and Sydney, at first and second places, respectively. Ten thousand people were interviewed from twenty different countries. Barcelona is recognized for its warm climate, lively culture and football team, as well as its classic Mediterranean nature.
2. La Mercè brought 600 activities to the streets This year have been four new venues taking part in La Mercè. Barcelona's co-patron saint's day festival hasn't missed a thing! Keeping to the same budget it had last year, around four million euros, this year it had six hundred activities planned for some thirty venues across the city. Over five days and nights, from 23 to 27 September, La Mercè has shown us a surprising feast of music, circus, theater, dance, fireworks, sport, children's activities and tradition.
3. More parking places for disabled Barcelona's Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district has completed its plan for reserved pubic parking spaces for people with reduced mobility by creating 28 new spaces that will serve 33 city facilities. There are 3,887 people with physical disabilities in the district.
4. Best Global Destination awards Barcelona is competing against five other cities worldwide for the title Best Global Destination in the first ever Trip-Out Gay Travel Awards. Described as a “stylish gay mecca” Barcelona is up against London, Buenos Aires, Montreal, Rio and Sydney. Votes can be cast on-line by the public at www.tripoutgaytravel.com until 28 September and the results will be announced at the 10th International Conference on Gay and Lesbian Tourism in Boston on 2 November.
