NEWS & WHAT'S ON?

1. Barcelona adapted 70% of metro network

Of the 123 metro stations to be found in Barcelona, 87 have already been adapted for people with reduced mobility, a figure representing 70% of the metro network.

As for the remaining stations, a total of 17 are currently undergoing work, including three on the L1 line, eight on L3, four on L4 and two on L5.

2. Barcelona to have a hundred solar-powered bus stops in 2010

AMT and TMB have presented the new model solar-powered, dynamic-information bus stop, about one hundred of which will be installed in 2010. These will use less energy and give the public information on incidents and when the next bus will arrive. The City Council is also launching a hybrid bus prototype which will go into service in the coming year.

3. Barcelona has the best quality of life of all Europe's cities

Barcelona retains its good position in Europe in the 2009 European Cities Monitor study. According to the study, the city comes top in quality of life, in addition to being the most progressive city in Europe and best city at promoting its image abroad. Barcelona has also kept its position as the fourth-best business city.

4. Barcelona City Council to regulate access to Park Güell

Four million people visit Park Güell each year, making it one of the city's indisputable natural and cultural icons. Such a high number of visitors, however, puts the park's conservation is at risk and, to protect it, the City Council will regulate access to it.

2. Barcelona to host the Davis Cup tennis finals

From 4 to 6 of December, Palau Sant Jordi will host the Davis Cup tennis finals, in which Spain will play against the Czech Republic. The Mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu, has expressed great satisfaction with the choice and remarked that "once again the city will show the world we can guarantee international events are a success."

3. It's snow time on Montjuïc mountain!

The Barcelona Snow Show, a pioneering event in Spain, will be offering a top-level sports spectacular on 7 and 8 November, featuring the best snowboarders and freestyle skiers. A 35-metre-high Big Air, the biggest in Europe, will be set up for the occasion in addition to a commercial area with complementary activities, all to help usher in the snow season.
