1. Giant Christmas pasta shells will light up Barcelona's festive season

Barcelona's Christmas plans mark a return to tradition with more street lights, musical performances in every district and giant-sized Christmas pasta shells at 26 points in the city. The lights, which will be switched on on 2 December, will give a boost to Christmas shopping in the various commercial centers.

2. Barcelona is one of the richest cities in the world

Barcelona is ranked among the world's richest cities, according to its per capita GDP based on purchasing power parity, according to a study conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers on how the population and economies of the world's main capitals will develop up to 2025, in both industrialized and emerging countries.

3. Galactic Suites space hotel is on course for a 2012 debuts

Each three-night stay at the Galactic Suites will cost a whopping $4.4 million, though that also gets you an eight-week training course on a tropical island. "It's very normal to think that your children, possibly within 15 years, could spend a weekend in space," Galactic Suites CEO Xavier Claramunt told Reuters Television. "When the passengers arrive in the rocket, they will join it for 3 days, rocket and capsule. With this we create in the tourist a confidence that he hasn't been abandoned. After 3 days the passenger returns to the transport rocket and returns to earth."
