1. Barcelona selects 112 teams for the "16 Collserola gates" project
Barcelona City Council has made its decision on the first stage of the "16 Collserola gates" project tender process, selecting 112 teams that will now consider how to arrange and link the Nature Park with the city.
The aim of this project, sponsored by the Area of Urban Habitat, is to arrange and link the city with the Nature Park through sixteen green corridors and various amenities.

2. Barcelona implements the cleaning improvement plan
On January 9 the Barcelona City Council launched its city cleaning improvement plan, a plan which provides for a series of changes in the way the cleaning services operate. Extra daily water spraying, greater maintenance of the most popular public spaces, more high-capacity waste bins, changes to commercial cardboard collecting and additional communications and powers make up the highlights of the plan.

3. The city's new-look Carnival
Barcelona is launching a new carnival model, which seeks to revive traditional activities and encourage participation by holding activities across the city. As such, instead of a central "rua", several processions will take place, and old traditions, like the carnival dance and arrival of the king or the burial of the sardine, are making a comeback.

4. Making the Magic Fountain even better than ever
Improvement work on the Magic Fountain will be going on until 24 February: that is, to be more specific, on its tank, main branch, the water feature and electrical fittings. The work will involve renovating the original elements from 1929 and reinforcing the ornamental system of the city's most popular fountain.

1. More offers in Barcelona Opportunity Week
The second edition of the Barcelona Opportunity Week, from 27 January to 5 February, is seeing 20% more restaurants, hotels, markets, florists' and cultural venues joining in and offering discounts. This year's initiative includes offers on flights to visit the city, although a good many of the discounts are aimed at Barcelona's own residents.

2. The Mobile World Congress keeps on growing
Barcelona is set to become the mobile phone capital once again, from 27 February to 11 March, with the Mobile World Congress, which is expected to see even more visitors and exhibitors this year. There will be a notable rise in the number of Spanish and Catalan businesses taking part, three times as many as in the previous edition.
