The Barcelona Airport is the second most important airport in Spain and it is still growing. According to the 2008 statistics, it handled an average of 83.000 passengers per day. This may be a good reason for its growth!
For the time being, it has two terminals: the new terminal T1 and terminal T2 (which encloses the former terminals A, B and C). Take a look at the airport map.
How do you get there? There is a bus shuttle service connecting both terminals. From Plaza Catalunya you can take the Aerobus A1 to get to T1, or the Aerobus A2 to get to T2.
The new terminal T1 is fully operative since October 2009 and it is taking care of over 70% of Barcelona Airport flights.
The airport is located approximately 12Km south-west of Barcelona. This is a reasonably short distance compared with other European airports.
You can check its location in the Barcelona map and have an idea of the easy access to Barcelona city.
Want to travel to or from the Barcelona Airport? There are several options according to your budget or in case you travel with a group. By public transport, you have the Renfe train (it stops in front of T2), the daytime bus 46 to/from Plaça Espanya, and night buses (N16 for T2 and N17 for T1). The Aerobus shuttle is an efficient private service with relatively low rates, but a limited schedule. Taxi is the most expensive transport to and from the airport.

Terminal T1 handles most of the international flights.
In this new terminal you will also find airlines that are part of those global alliances like Oneworld, StarAlliance and even for those airlines which have some kind of agreement with them.
This terminal is also used for the shuttle service Barcelona-Madrid. At certain hours, there are up to four flights per hour, totalizing more than 30 daily flights.
This terminal encloses the former terminals A, B and C. For the time being, it is reserved for some international flights and also for some regional flights.
If you want to appreciate a nice piece of art free of charge, then see the ceramic mural of Joan Miró in the facade of T2B.
Looking for smoking areas, eh?
No, no! You have no chances inside the terminals. Only outside.
Even though we are not listing all the airport facilities, located mainly at terminals T1, T2A and T2B, here you have what can be of interest for you including what we call surrounding facilities:
