Barcelona Airport Transportation by Metro and Train

Since February 2016, the Barcelona Metro line L9 Sud is linking the city with El Prat BCN airport. You'll find stops at both, airport terminal 1 (T1) and terminal 2 (T2). To get from Barcelona airport to city center you have to switch lines, and it takes a long. Bear in mind that you can not use the T10 transport card with this metro line from and to the airport. Instead, you can buy the Barcelona Card or a regular transport card (Hola BCN Card).

You can also choose to take a train from Barcelona airport to Barcelona Sants (central train station), and this is a very convenient option. The Renfe train R2 leaves the airport about every 30 minutes from 05:42 to 23:38. You can find the stop in front of BCN airport terminal 2 (T2), across the parking lot. There is a high tunnel/passageway that will take you there from the terminal 2.

One of the benefits of taking the train is that it is swift so that you can get to the city quickly. You can get to El Prat de Llobregat in only 6 minutes. If you are trying to get to Passeig de Gracia stop, it will take about 30 minutes. The train also goes all the way to Granollers center, and this trip is an hour and three minutes. Click here for train schedules.

If you select public transportation, the fee will be less than that charged by private transfer services. You also won't have to worry about added charges for additional bags. Plus, the news gets even better. The Barcelona card will give you free public transportation, in addition to a wide range of discounts on tours, attractions, shops, restaurants, and much more.

You can buy the Barcelona card before your trip, and that way you will have it ready to go when you arrive. Barcelona Budget is pleased to offer a discount on the Barcelona card so that you can get this savings on your airport shuttle, plus, of course, the impressive array of other cuts. Buy the Barcelona Card here!

You can also purchase a regular Barcelona Transport card (Hola BCN Card), which is only good for public transportation options. If you buy the transport card, you can travel a lot for a dramatically reduced rate.

Barcelona airport shuttle by regular bus

There are regular city public buses to/from the airport, but they take around 50 minutes to/from downtown

Barcelona Airport Transport by Public Buses

There are also Barcelona bus transfers through regular city public transportation to and from Barcelona El Prat airport. This option is cheaper than the Aerobus or train. During the daytime hours, there is the bus 46 which links Plaza Espanya with El Prat BCN airport terminal 1 (T1) and terminal 2 (T2).

These buses run every 15-20 minutes. Click here for bus schedules. If you are coming in at the late night or wee hours of the morning, there is a special nighttime bus service you can take, called Nitbus (night bus).

From Barcelona El Prat airport, you can catch the Nitbus N16 from terminal 2 (T2) and N17 from terminal 1 (T1). They run every 25-30 minutes and also connect the airport with Plaza Espanya and Plaza Catalunya. Click here for more information.

Barcelona airport shuttle - The AeroBus

The AeroBus is a good compromise between public service and taxi

Barcelona Aerobus Shuttle

One of the most popular ways to travel into the city is by Barcelona bus transfers. Aerobus is a frequent private service, which leaves the airport every 5 minutes. Plan on it taking about 35 minutes to get to Barcelona city center. However, you should bear in mind that this service does not run round the clock.

The Aerobus route covers strategic stops like Plaza Catalunya, which is the city center, as well as other stops including Plaza Espanya and Plaza Universitat (direction airport-city), with a stop at the junction of Gran Via with Urgell street (direction airport to city). Also a stop at the intersection of Sepulveda with Urgell street (direction city-airport).

The Cost for a Barcelona Taxi

Of course, there is also a Barcelona taxi service from and to BCN El Prat airport, but that's the most expensive option. It will take about 20-30 minutes to or from downtown Barcelona. If you want to save money, it is not a good idea to choose a taxi as an airport shuttle service. The average taxi fare from Barcelona airport to city center is about €35 (that is, if the driver is honest). Unfortunately, some unscrupulous drivers will "take you for a ride"!
