The Miro Foundation in Barcelona and the Joan Miro Gallery
The Miro Foundation in Barcelona has done much to promote the incredible art of Miro. On June 10, 1975, the Joan Miro Foundation opened its doors. Miro always had a vision. He wanted the foundation to be more than a place to showcase his work. It was important that this gallery was also a place where other artists could receive attention as well.
The Miro Foundation has stayed true to this vision. A visit to the Miro Gallery in Barcelona is, of course, a way to learn more and explore Joan Miro art, but it is also a way to learn more about contemporary artists. Today, this museum has a collection of about 8000 drawings, over 200 paintings, and more than 150 sculptures.
You'll also enjoy visiting the beautiful region of Montjuic. The museum is located on a hill, and you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Barcelona. Plus, the building itself is indeed a site to behold. Designed by Josep Lluis Sert, many consider it to be one of the world's best museum buildings. It has a peaceful quality as well as a light, airy tone.
